dovetherapyThe doves have landed … at dove house

Going for a wander towards Onehunga Mall some time ago,

I passed in front of this beautiful old historic building on Grey Street

that not so long ago became the home of Golden Grove School.

I was pleased to see that it had been well done up was even more charming

with children playing around the garden and doves flying around…

As Eastern Bay Hospice had renamed its premises dove house a couple of years before,

I thought these birds would be a great and appropriate gift to the team and patients.

Helena, the director and owner of Golden Grove School in Onehunga once used to be my neighbour.

When I asked her about getting some of these birds for dove house, she seemed very happy.

Soon after talking to Helena, I started making some enquiries about the birds

and how to keep and look after them.

After finding where we could purchase a suitable dove cote,

Janine was very enthusiastic and told me that Chris Giles may be interested to sponsor the project.

Chris had wished to thank dove house for the care that was given in 2009 to his wife Sandra

during the last six months of her life.

When he learned about this opportunity, he immediately volunteered to take on the dove project

and to personally finance the purchase of the necessary equipment, dove cote, aviary and bird feeder.
